The Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 report is published

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has released its 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index report. The assessment evaluates nations across five key dimensions: legal frameworks, technical capabilities, organizational structures, capacity development, and cooperative initiatives.
The new five-tier classification system (T1–T5) is a welcome change. It "allows us to focus on progress in terms of engagement and the resulting impacts" — a clearer approach than previous ranking methodologies, which often lacked clarity.
For the Latin America and Caribbean region, Haiti currently holds Tier 4 status, with a score between 20 and 50. That demonstrates progress despite ongoing political challenges, though the country shows particular weakness in technical measures — an area that should be more readily addressable than some of the others.
Tier 4 represents nations demonstrating basic cybersecurity commitment through government-led initiatives implementing measures across at least one pillar.
Hopefully Haiti's government uses this report to strengthen its cybersecurity posture ahead of the next assessment cycle.
